Since Tuesday evening, 140,000 little LED lights have been making Kudamm and Tauentzienstraße shine in a Christmassy way.
Around 140 kilometers of chains of lights with economical LED lamps, which consume comparatively little electricity, were hung in the trees between Rathenauplatz and Wittenbergplatz.
And the luminous figures such as Santa Claus and Nutcracker could also be rebuilt and ceremonially switched on.
The sponsors, including CG Elementum AG and DEAG Deutsche Entertainment AG, covered the costs of around EUR 595,000. The Senate had decided against the Christmas lights.
“Against the background of the current crises, many people long for a place where they can leave everyday life behind for a short moment,” says DEAG boss Prof. Peter Schwenkow.
