The exceptionally serious overshooting that took place in the Canadian junior league OHL has drawn outright judgments from North American puck journalists.
The recorded situation from the match between Brampton Steelheads and Oshawa Generals has been shared on their X account by, among others, The Athletic Scott Wheeler.
The situation begins when Brampton Luke Dragusica gets tackled by two Oshawa players near the end plex.
Dragusica gets up and leaves his second tackler, By Brady Blasegbehind. In the very next moment, Blaseg gets a hard scythe from behind from the stick to the area around his temple.
After this, Dragusica hits Blaseg, who is still slumped on the ice and bleeding, with a cross stick in the back.
Both players are 17 years old.
– Such an act should result in a suspension for the whole season or longer, Wheeler writes.
Dragusica was sentenced to an out for the situation at the end of the third period. The OHL has said that it suspended the player due to the events of the match played on Friday.
Out of the sport
Former Sportsnet reporter and creator of his own podcast Jeff Marek was also shocked by what he saw.
– Nauseating. First, I hope Blaseg is okay and recovering physically and mentally. Second, the suspension should be long. I expect this to happen.
Like Wheeler, who works for The Athletic Michael Russo thought that the act was disturbed to such an extent that Dragusica would have to be kicked out of the whole sport.
– He should never be allowed to play again, Russo announces.
