A few days before the start of the 9-euro ticket, not all questions about the area of validity have been clarified.

The promotional ticket is not valid on some intercity sections where passengers with other local transport tickets are allowed to board, as Deutsche Bahn made clear on Friday. These long-distance trains are shown in the travel information in addition to the IC with a regional train designation. The note “9-EUR-Ticket is not valid”, said a spokesman.

According to the railways, there are still regional discussions on the subject. The regulation had led to confusion among customers in the past few days.

The train named seven corresponding intercity connections on Friday: Bremen-Norddeich Mole, Elsterwerda-Berlin, Berlin-Prenzlau, Potsdam-Berlin-Cottbus, Dillenburg-Letmathe, Erfurt-Gera and Stuttgart-Constance. For them, there are agreements with the federal states that passengers with a local transport ticket may use this IC; the federal states pay compensation to the railways.

For the so-called Gäubahn from Stuttgart to Lake Constance, the state of Baden-Württemberg and the railways agreed on Wednesday that the 9-euro ticket will also be accepted in the trains on this IC section. “Discussions are still ongoing with other countries,” Deutsche Bahn announced.

With the campaign ticket, passengers can use local transport nationwide for a month from Wednesday. The campaign runs up to and including August.
