Great players have lived a last year full of difficulties and disappointments in their performance
Hazard, Coutinho, Bale or Pogba are some of the most prominent names on this list
This year 2022 has been full of surprises, some of them as a result of the World Cup in Qatar, but there have also been players who have performed well below their expected level, which has had a notable impact on their market value. These are the ten biggest disappointments of the past year:
EDEN HAZARD
It could not be anyone other than the Belgian who headed this list of disappointments, with another year to forget from his memory. Hazard, since his arrival at Real Madrid in 2019 for 115 million euros, he has only played 72 games, in which he has seen the goal only seven times.
In the 21/22 season, the former Chelsea player only scored one goal in the Copa del Rey, and so far this season, Hazard has played 229 minutes and scored once. Ancelotti does not have him, nor did his predecessors, and the white club is already looking for a way out for him by any means.
JOAO FELIX
Joao Félix’s stage as an Atlético de Madrid player seems to be coming to an end finishafter the constant disagreements with his coach, Cholo Simeone, who is relieving him in a testimonial role in the current season.
Since his arrival in 2019 for 127 million euros, the Portuguese has not been able to demonstrate his full potential under the coach’s orders, who seems not to get the most out of a player destined to be a soccer star. He scored eight goals last season, and this year he has only three, some figures far below its cache.
PAUL POGBA
Pogba, after his move to Manchester United in the summer of 2016, was destined to be one of the best midfielders in the world. Six years later, at 29, the Frenchman is still immersed in a roller coaster of poor performance and setbacks physical.
played a role testimonial in the 21/22 season with the ‘red devils’, and he only played half the Premier League games, with Fred, McTominay and Bruno Fernandes starting in midfield. He arrived at Juventus last summer, but has not even made his debut due to injuries.
JADON SANCHO
One of the greatest British promises of the last decade is living in ostracism since his return to English football. Jadon Sancho arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2021 in exchange for 85 million euros, and in the 52 games wearing the ‘red devils’ shirt he has scored eight goals.
The electric The winger who overflowed at Borrussia Dortmund has completely disappeared in England, and even this season his coach, Erik Ten Hag, has decided to put him on the bench and opt for names like Garnacho or Elanga to replace him.
COUTINHO
After landing in Birmingham in January 2022, the first months of competition were good for Coutinho, who enjoyed the trust of Aston Villa manager at the time, Steven Gerrard. But his performance plummeted at the end of last season, as did the level of the entire team.
Villa signed him permanently in exchange for 20 million euros last summer, but Philippe Coutinho has been miserably bad on 22/23, only playing 40% of the minutes and being irrelevant to his team’s game. He has played 13 games so far this season, and hasn’t recorded any goals or assists.
ARTHUR
The Brazilian interior seems not to have raised its head since its departure from Barcelona in the summer of 2020, with a testimonial spell at Juventus and another failure now at Liverpool, a club to which it arrived in the last moments of the transfer market and in which not even so only has debuted.
Due to the constant injuries, Arthur has not played any game this season under the orders of Jürgen Klopp, a coach who has made him play with the Liverpool-sub 23 to regain his physical form, which seems to be far from elite. It was not an option at any time for Tite in his call for the World Cup.
ILAIX MORIBA
Ilaix Moriba is another player who is experiencing a dark period since his departure from Barça in the summer of 2021. The 19-year-old crashed at German Leipzig, on and off the pitch, and the club sent him to Valencia on loan , where it has had more shadows than lights.
This season he has only played six games out of eleven possible, and has not recorded any goals or assists. His coach in the ‘ché’ team, Gennaro GattusoSometimes he opts for other players like Nico or Yunus Musah.
Timo Werner
Werner arrived at Chelsea in 2020 after scoring 28 Bundesliga goals with Leipzig, figures that the ‘blue’ board hoped to replicate in England as well, but this has not been the case. Last season, the German only scored four goals in the league in 21 games, figures well below what his level marked.
Now he is playing again in the ranks of Lepizig, where he has scored four goals and is leaving sensations that are far from what he aspired to just a few years ago.
GARETH BALE
After some very disappointing last seasons at Real Madrid, Gareth Bale set course for the MLSand now plays for Los Angeles Football Club, a club for which he has scored only two goals in the twelve games he has played this season.
In the 21/22 campaign, the Welshman only played seven games with the white club, culminating in a resounding way a stage in which Bale managed to win five Champions League as a Real Madrid player, even scoring in two finals.
CRISTIANO RONALDO
The reality is that Cristiano Ronaldo has lived a 2022 with two halves completely antagonistic. The Portuguese scored eighteen goals in the Premier League and another six in the Champions League, some very good records for a 37-year-old player.
But this 22/23 campaign Ronaldo has chained failure after failure. After playing just one goal in the league and coming off the bench in most of these games, the striker publicly declared his anger with the club, a fact for which both parties rescinded their contractual agreements.
At this point, Cristiano Ronaldo has no team, and his fate seems to be in the offing. Al Nassrteam of the first division of Saudi Arabia.
