Nothing is harder for rock stars than listening to their doctor’s advice. But sometimes there is no other way. Rage Against The Machine had to cancel their European tour because of Zack de la Roche’s injury. Now a friend of the band revealed: The singer is said to have torn his Achilles tendon.
“I came to my good friend Zack de la Roche’s concert to see him perform (with a torn achilles tendon) at Madison Square Garden,” photographer Glen E. Friedman wrote on Instagram. Although the singer had to sit during the performance, he showed the world what she “missed”. After all, this was a concert on the first RATM tour in ten years.
The unfortunate injury happened during a concert in Chicago on July 11th. Zack de la Roche was sidelined due to foot pain but quickly returned to the stage. “We’re gonna keep this damn shit going. I can also crawl across the stage. We’re going to play for you all today,” he announced.

In the end, however, the 52-year-old had to give in. The European tour had to be cancelled. The flights, travel time and rigorous schedule are “too big a risk” to guarantee the singer’s recovery, it said. The last concerts in Madison Square Garden on August 11, 12 and 14 could still take place.
