That’s why the Rolling Stones don’t sell their music catalogue

In recent years, many musicians have attracted attention with the news that they have sold the rights to their published music for large sums of money. Artists like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, or Jack Antonoff and Stevie Nicks had sold their catalogs for very high sums.

In an interview with CBS This Morning, The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards said that’s unlikely to happen with the band’s music.

“Mick and I haven’t really talked about it,” he said. “I don’t know if we are ready to sell our catalogue. We could stretch it out a bit, put some more stuff in it.” For him, selling the catalog is really just a sign of getting old, Richards added.

The Stones haven’t released an album of new songs since 2005’s “A Bigger Bang,” but Richards said in the interview that they’re working on it. “I worked with Mick and drummer Steve Jordan last week and we came up with eight or nine pieces of new material,” Richards said, “which by our standards is mind-blowing.”

The Stones recently announced a European tour to mark their 60th anniversary. The tour starts on June 1st in Madrid and ends on July 31st in Stockholm. The band is also coming to Germany for two concerts. One in Munich and one in Gelsenkirchen.

Richards, meanwhile, is releasing his 1992 solo LP Main Offender as a deluxe edition this week. He also performed a set with the X-Pensive Winos at the Love Rocks Benefit in New York City on March 10th.
