Kylian Mbappé is likely to move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid in the summer. A transfer that is also likely to have negative consequences for the Bundesliga soccer club RB Leipzig.
The expected departure of Mbappé reduces Leipzig’s chances of Xavi Simons staying.
“For us it’s initially a rather negative thought process,” said Leipzig’s sports director Rouven Schröder after the 2-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The procedure has been clearly discussed with PSG: “He’s going back to Paris at the end of the season, and we won’t have the opportunity to ask again in the summer,” explained Schröder.
The French brought Xavi back from PSV Eindhoven last summer for six million euros thanks to a buyback clause and then loaned him to RB Leipzig. The Saxons do not have a purchase option.
Is FC Bayern also courting Simons?
The renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported in his “Daily Briefing” that Simons’ future is currently still completely open. PSG is definitely ready to sell the offensive player in the summer.
It is not known whether Mbappé’s departure would change anything.
Simons’ market value is currently estimated at around 70 million euros. His contract with PSG runs until 2027.
The Dutchman is considered one of Europe’s greatest talents in his position.
At RB Leipzig, the youngster immediately became a top performer. In its ranking of German football after the first half of the season, the “kicker” ranked him second in the attacking midfield behind Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. Simons also now has eleven international matches for Elftal in his CV.
FC Bayern was also said to be loosely interested in Simons. However, this has not yet been made concrete.
