A stopover that is worthwhile
If you are planning your next long-distance trip and want to save money, you can reduce your spending on flights as well as booking a hotel or rental car. A flight is often cheaper if you do without a direct flight connection and instead make a stopover. If you are planning a long-haul flight to travel to the other end of the world, you usually cannot avoid a stopover. However, it does not necessarily have to be just a short stay, which is only used to change planes. If you have a stopover of at least 24 hours, it is called a stopover. Under certain circumstances, this can significantly reduce travel costs and can also be used sensibly in many cases.
Stopover as a short vacation
Depending on the connection and the desired destination, a flight with a stopover can take some time. But instead of spending this time waiting at the airport, a stay of several hours can be used sensibly and a sightseeing tour can be planned. If you are not in a hurry, you can extend your stopover to a stopover lasting more than 24 hours and thus add a city trip to Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok or New York to your holiday. According to “Travelbook”, some airlines even offer special stopover programs and do not charge a surcharge. In some cases, there are even discounted hotels, and with business or first-class flights, a free stay in a 4- or 5-star hotel is often also offered.
Travel cheaper with Stopover
A stopover also results in savings advantages, because while some connections do not offer a direct flight at all, it is often worth making a stopover for other destinations from a financial point of view. By using the self-connect principle, i.e. booking the individual flights directly with the airlines yourself, you can look for the cheapest connection – and the location for a possible longer stopover. Because many airlines offer this at their respective main hubs in their home country. In this way you can visit interesting cities with little effort and without great expense, for which you would otherwise probably not plan your own trip.
