Robbie Williams has to cancel his final concert of his “Britpop” tour in Istanbul. The reason for this is acute security concerns. The 51-year-old announced on Saturday in an Instagram story that the authorities of the Turkish metropolis had deleted the concert “in the interest of public security”.
Williams should have appeared on Tuesday, October 7th in the Ataköy Marina Arena in Istanbul. It would have been his first concert in Turkey. In addition, the show would have been the final of its world tour. “I am extremely sad to have to cancel this appearance,” wrote the 51-year-old. “The last thing I would ever risk is the security of my fans – it always comes first.” He is disappointed with the cancellation and explains that he would have already been looking forward to his first Turkey guest game.
British newspaper reports on threats
Like the British tabloid “The Sun“Reports, the cancellation should be related to security concerns. Reason are threats in Turkey about Williams’ earlier appearances in Israel and his support for the country. Williams is married to actress Ayda Field Williams, who was born in Turkey and has a Muslim father and a Jewish mother.
Robbie Williams: The statement in the wording
“I am incredibly sorry that I cannot appear in Istanbul next week. The city authorities have canceled the concert in the interest of public security. The last thing I would ever risk is the safety of my fans – their security and well -being come first.
We were very excited to play in Istanbul for the first time and deliberately selected the city as the last stop of the Britpop tour. Ending this great chapter of my tour in front of my Turkish fans was a dream – precisely because of the close connection that my family has to this wonderful country.
To everyone in Istanbul who wanted to join us – to the 1.2 million people who shared this extraordinary tour with us this year – I’m sorry. We were so looking forward to this concert, but the decision to cancel was outside of our control. ”
