That’s why BVB signed Süle from FC Bayern

With Niklas Sül, a German national player is moving from FC Bayern to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer this summer. BVB sports director Michael Zorc has now explained the commitment of the central defender.

“We dealt with Niklas Süle because he is one of the best German defenders and was on the market for free,” said Zorc on the sidelines of Borussia Dortmund’s Europa League game against Glasgow Rangers on “RTL +”.

The sports director added: “It would have been negligent not to deal with him.”

However, the Süle deal is not a declaration of war on FC Bayern. “The dominance results primarily from the economic differences,” emphasized Zorc.

BVB announced in early February that the club had secured the central defender’s services for the coming season. Süle’s contract with FC Bayern expires at the end of June, so the move to Dortmund does not entail a transfer fee.

Niklas Süle complains about a lack of appreciation at Bayern

Recently, there has already been speculation as to how exactly Borussia Süle was able to convince of a change. On the one hand, Dortmund were probably more willing than Bayern to meet the defensive player’s salary requirements. According to “Bild”, Süle is said to earn twelve million euros a year at the Revierklub, while no eight-digit salary has been offered to him on the Isar.

In addition, the BVB bosses have also tried very hard to get Süle. The “Bild” speaks of a secret meeting at which managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke, sports director Michael Zorc, coach Marco Rose and license area manager Sebastian Kehl wooed the Bayern star.

Süle had emphasized that he was “impressed” by courting his service. According to the media tenor, a lack of appreciation is said to be one of the main reasons for his departure from Munich.
