Now the track reaches its next milestone as the theme music for the acclaimed new season of True Detective.
How this came about and why the intro track was tailor-made for the series was explained by Issa López, this season’s showrunner, in an interview with “Business Insider”: “I knew the series needed a strong anthem, a showstopper, honestly. When we were working on the titles, I tried different things and then I realized that the lyrics to this song seemed like they were written for the series. It’s crazy. It’s about a tongue, about burying a friend. It seemed perfect. So we tried it out and it just worked, it was probably meant to be.”
