That’s why “Big Tits” won’t be a hit at the Munich Oktoberfest

With their apocalyptic stage ambience and the futuristic-martial gap, Rammstein stand for a phenotypically urban band. Shock rockers from the metropolitan juggernaut. The Trudelturm on the research site in Berlin Adlershof can be seen on the cover of their current album “Zeit”.

And yet the current single “Big Tits” picks up on German “country” myths, at least in text and video. Alpenglow, cows in festive attire and the proverbial wood in front of the hut. A rough thigh slapper with a lot of boom.

In an interview with the “Allgäuer Zeitung” based in Kempten, keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz assessed the potential of this politically incorrect fun track for the Munich Oktoberfest and similar traditional events as rather low. “Big Tits” is one of the highly acclaimed new songs from “Zeit”. But on the current stadium tour, this will not be performed live.

“If a song becomes a Oktoberfest hit, that certainly doesn’t speak for the quality of the song. Have the White Stripes already played a Oktoberfest hit?” Flake answers the question from the “Allgäuer” with a counter-question. After all, the Bayern fans in the Allianz Arena would be singing along to the riff of “Seven Nation Army”, according to the local reporter. Then a quick-witted flake: “Are they playing football at the Wiesn now?”

His credo: “I’ve never been to the Wiesn and I don’t intend to ever visit it in my life.”

The fact that the video implementation of “Big Tits” relies on crack leather and subtle udder references does not necessarily lead to the footsteps of Anton from Tyrol and friends.

As is so often the case, Rammstein conjure up ancient German myths. On the other hand, they rarely stay in the lowlands. Even if Till Lindemann once gave an alpine summit conqueror in the video for “Ohne Dich”. A fatal fall from lofty heights included.

After all, keyboarder Flake has a certain relationship to agriculture. The lover of new-timer cars once had a vintage tractor in his collection. However, he had to sell it “because my neighbors always complained when I started it,” says Flake. “My property is also very small, there is hardly room for a lawnmower”. In the video for “Big Tits” he “was even more impressed by the cow, it was almost as big as the tractor – and much wilder.”
