Super promise Connor Bedard has signed an NHL contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, reported The Athletic.
The sports publication says, relying on its sources, that Bedard has signed a three-year rookie contract with the club on Monday, his birthday. Bedard turns 18 on Monday.
According to The Athletic, both the club and the player wanted to wait until Bedard’s birthday regarding the contract.
The Blackhawks booked Bedard in June as the first player in the entire NHL booking event.
Booking Bedard has been a financial success for the Blackhawks. The club has sunk to the bottom of the NHL, but now its season ticket sales have been fierce. Thousands of Bedard fan shirts have already been sold.
Bedard already participated in Chicago’s development camp earlier in July.
– It’s been really fun. I was glad I got here right away the draft after, to see the city and meet the staff and all the players, Bedard commented at the beginning of July.
Bedard is expected to play immediately in the NHL in the coming season and make a difference.
– After all, I am a normal person. People can forget that a bit when there’s all the noise and stuff around. I am human. I know with noise and attention comes responsibility, but in the locker room I’m one of the guys.
Last season, Bedard scored an incredible 71+72=143 points in 57 regular season games in the WHL junior series.
