Thanks to the “Halo” system, Formula 1 driver Zhou survived the horrific accident last weekend. Now he talks about his thoughts on the upcoming Grand Prix.
Alfa Romeo driver Guanyu Zhou, after a few days’ recovery from his serious Formula 1 accident (read more here), once again praised the racing series’ safety improvements in recent years. With the crash at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, the 23-year-old Chinese has apparently come to an end. “I’m just focused on the weekend here in Austria,” he said before the Grand Prix in Spielberg.
Zhou had an accident right at the start of the race last Sunday. His car slid headfirst over the asphalt and gravel bed and ultimately hit the safety fence. From the moment he left Silverstone, “I was looking forward to getting back in the car,” Zhou said. He had not sustained any serious injuries.
Alex Albon is also ready for action again and ready for the race weekend with the sprint on Saturday and the Grand Prix on the Red Bull Ring on Sunday. He too had recently survived a violent accident in his Williams unscathed. “I’m pleased that after what happened at Silverstone, I can say, ‘I’m fine.'” It always sounds dramatic when someone is taken to the hospital, Albon admitted. But it was only a precautionary measure for him, the 26-year-old asserted.
