That’s what The Weeknd is now called on Instagram

The Canadian has already announced that he will need to change his stage name. Now it is time.

Now, if you head over to The Weeknd’s Instagram and Twitter pages, you can still find the Canadian musician there, but he’s changed his name on the pages themselves. His more than 55.7 million followers on Instagram and more than 17.3 million followers on Twitter now see his birth name: Abel Tesfaye.

In early May, Tesfaye declared that he was done with his previous alter ego: “As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say,” said an interview with “W Magazine”. Whether he will release music from now on under the name he was born with in 1990 is not clear at the moment.

A new music project has already been announced by Tesfaye. Dubbed THE IDOL VOL.1, it is expected to accompany the drama series The Idol, which Tesfaye is co-producing and co-starring with Lily Rose Depp. The show will be available in Germany via WOW from June 5, 2023.

The Weeknd’s current studio album DAWN FM was released in 2022.
