Barack Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States of America in 2008 and is still considered one of the most popular ex-presidents of all time. Not only was he able to generate the most votes of all time at the time – both he and his wife Michelle Obama wrote several world bestsellers after his term in office and are still popular guests on talk and late night shows. In addition, Obama had a successful podcast with Bruce Springsteen in 2021. Now, on Monday, March 20, 2023, it was made official that the 61-year-old will come to Berlin’s Mercedes-Benz Arena for an event on May 3. The event is titled “An evening with President Barack Obama” and costs (attention!) €83 upwards.

And not only that: For a so-called “Premium Seat” and the “Premium Package” you pay between 500 and 600€. The services that you get for this are, among other things, an “exclusive seat in the premium blocks” with “first-class comfort thanks to upholstered seats”, a “free cloakroom” and – in the case of the “Premium Package” – also “buffet and drinks ( Soft drinks, wines by the glass, various beers, coffee) in the Premium Club”. To what extent this price difference between a normal ticket and the premium package should pay off is up to the buyer. It is also interesting that there is no information about what Barack Obama will actually be doing on stage throughout the evening. In any case, the “Premium” offers do not include a Meet & Greet.

In the descriptive text of the Mercedes-Benz Arena you can only read information about Obama’s life, achievements and work. For example, the last paragraph reads: “In times of great challenge and change, President Obama’s leadership has resulted in a stronger economy, a more equal society, a nation that is safer at home and more respected in the world.” The text ends with the Sentence: “During the Obama years, not only did more people begin to see themselves in the changing face of America, but they also began to see America as it always has – as the only place on earth that… many of our stories are even possible.”
