“That woman shouldn’t be whining like that!”

Marieke Elsinga came home yesterday morning with a hangover from her radio show on Qmusic. She has been given a lot of chaffing by one of her listeners. “You shouldn’t whine like that!”

Some celebrities deal with it more easily than others: criticism. Marieke Elsinga has a little more trouble with it. She received a critical app from a listener yesterday morning and once she got home she started to worry about it. In fact, she has three entire Instagramstories about recorded.

Thinner hair

What was that listener so angry about? Those terribly lame radio games she plays all the time with her buddy Mattie Valk? That someone has to guess a word or a sound again? The constant complaining about her busy work schedule and how exhausting it all is? The horrible lame anecdotes they come up with?

No, Marieke has been grumbling about her thinning hair. “I’m sitting here on the couch under a blanket, I’m still mulling over the morning show this morning. In it I told that my hair has become so thin after pregnancy. That is really something that happens to a lot of women when you stop breastfeeding.”

Marieke is bummed

Marieke thinks that’s rotten. “Of course I think that’s a bit disappointing, but it will grow back and it’s all just minor suffering, isn’t it, because I’m very happy that I had a child. Then, after that story, an app came in from Robin and that app touches me, because I still think about it.”

She continues: “That app said: ‘Marieke shouldn’t complain like that. There are plenty of women who want to get pregnant, but they don’t succeed.’ That touched because Robin is right, but also because of the tone. Then I typed back a message.”

No disclaimer

What did Mary say? “I said, ‘Dear Robin, I’m sorry, it wasn’t my intention to hurt you or anyone, but we do a lot of hours of radio a week and it’s almost all about our personal lives, including my own. now live as a young mother and I cannot always add some kind of disclaimer.”

Then, according to Marieke, it becomes ‘an unlistenable form of radio’. “Then I got a very sweet message back from: ‘I understand, I get it. It’s just been hard for us and luckily we have a little one now.’ And I understood that so well.”

“K*t, am I hurting?”

Now Marieke is a bit relieved again. “So behind the: ‘Marieke, don’t say that!’, there was sadness and that’s why it came out hard. But that’s not fun either and that keeps me busy, because then I think: shit, am I hurting people all the time by telling about my child?”

Marieke has not only had a period with thinner hair, but also one with a thin audience. Her debut as a show host attracted so few viewers that Alles is Muziek was taken off the screen early. Yvonne Coldeweijer knows why that is. “She is a kind of vanilla Danoon. She is very mwehhh.”
