However, should the Saxons lose in Bielefeld and SC win away from Leverkusen, who are already safely in third place, the Breisgauer would overtake RB and qualify for the group stage of the Champions League.
Union Berlin could also overtake Freiburg and draw level with Leipzig if they win their last game against Bochum, but would have to be satisfied with fifth place in the table at most on goal difference.
On the other hand, Union must also look backwards. Should the Köpenicker not win against Bochum and the Cologne win in Stuttgart at the same time, the Effzeh could still catch up with the Berliners and compete in their place in the Europa League. Either way: Union and Cologne will play internationally in the coming season.
Five Champions League participants and the DFB Cup
Eintracht Frankfurt is currently only in twelfth place in the league and will only end the season in the middle of the table. As a finalist in the Europa League, however, the SBU has the opportunity to secure participation in the Champions League in the 2022/23 season – and thus become the fifth German team to enter the competition. They meet Glasgow Rangers on May 18 (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online).
In addition, the DFB Cup also plays a special role: According to the regulations, the cup winner of each season can compete in the Europa League in the coming season. On Saturday, May 21, 2022, SC Freiburg and RB Leipzig will meet in the final.
Since RB and Freiburg will reach at least seventh place in the Bundesliga, it is already certain that the seventh-placed team will play in the playoffs for the Europa Conference League.
Relegation, relegation or still safe?
The lower section of the table looks completely different. While Fürth has already been relegated, three teams still have to worry about staying up: Hertha BSC, VfB Stuttgart and Arminia Bielefeld.
