Thanks to Sabitzer: Austria & Rangnick make the EM ticket perfect

Yellow-red for Burgstaller

Austria and coach Ralf Rangnick have qualified early for the European Championships in Germany. The Austrians won 1-0 (0-0) in Azerbaijan on Monday evening and thus made their ticket to the European Championship perfect; for them it is their third participation in a row after 2016 and 2021. Borussia Dortmund’s Marcel Sabitzer (48th) scored by Hand penalty scored the goal for the guests, who surprisingly struggled, especially in the first half.

Things didn’t go ideally for the Rangnick team in the second round either, as they made a lot of mistakes. In the first minute of injury time, Azerbaijan even had a great chance to equalize – but Toral Bayramov shot past from a few meters from an unmarked position. In the fourth minute of injury time, Guido Burgstaller was shown a yellow-red card for repeated foul play. The former Bundesliga professional had only recently been substituted on. The veteran was reactivated by Rangnick four years after his retirement from selection due to numerous injuries.
