Holstein Kiel has temporarily moved back to second place in the 2nd Bundesliga. However, the North Germans had to be content with a 1-1 (1-0) draw at 1. FC Magdeburg on Friday evening. Timo Becker gave the guests the lead after 27 minutes. After Luc Castaignos (55th) failed in front of 20,097 spectators with a hand penalty against the well-reacting Timon Weiner, substitute winter signing Emir Kuhinja managed the deserved equalizer with his first touch of the ball in the fifth minute of stoppage time. The striker was only signed by regional league team SGV Freiberg last week.

Both coaches had significant staffing problems. After Baris Atik (3rd) for Magdeburg and Joshua Mees (6th) missed good chances, the game initially petered out. Kiel had more possession, but there were few scenes worth mentioning. Magdeburg tried to take action themselves from the 20th minute onwards. It was precisely in this good phase for the hosts that the goal came out of the crowd. After that, only Kiel played until the break.

After the change it was a game between the penalty areas again. Kiel switched to counterattacks and left the game to the FCM. In the 54th minute, Marco Komenda blocked a shot from Alexander Nollenberger with his arm, but Weiner saved the penalty with his first save of the game. But that spurred Magdeburg on even more, and they now had good chances. Nollenberger only hit the crossbar after 62 minutes. Kiel only played in their own half and got the reward in the form of the equalizer.

Only a draw: KSC lost two leads in Wiesbaden

After two mistakes by goalkeeper Patrick Drewes, Karlsruher SC missed out on a possible home win against SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The KSC took the lead twice on Friday in a 2-2 (1-0) thanks to Budu Zivzivadze (35th) and Igor Matanovic (53rd) and extended their series to eight games without defeat in front of 20,407 spectators.

But Drewes allowed one of the opponent’s shots to rebound before both goals were conceded by Ivan Prtajin (48th) and Nick Bätzner (74th), thereby helping the Hessians to a point. While the hosts initially moved up to seventh place at the start of the 20th matchday, Wehen Wiesbaden remained eleventh in the table.

The KSC, where captain Jerôme Gondorf returned to the starting line-up after knee problems, started very cautiously and made many inaccuracies throughout the game. The guests, coached by former Karlsruher Markus Kausczinski, initially controlled the game, but were all too often harmless in attack, apart from a hit on the crossbar by Prtajin (45th + 3). After the break, an open duel developed in which Karlsruhe was actually the better of two teams that were at best average in terms of play, but missed the win due to Drewes’ mistakes.
