HalleBoth regular train traffic and train traffic on the high-speed line were affected by two incidents in Halle on Tuesday evening.

At about 7 pm there was a malfunction in one of the signals on the track near Halle. As a result, trains had to run slower and there was a delay of up to half an hour. “Our teams immediately got to work to solve the problems,” says Thomas Baeken, spokesperson for railway manager Infrabel. “In the course of the evening everything will be restored. There will therefore be no consequences for train traffic when it is resumed on Wednesday morning.”

A little later in the evening, however, there was a second incident, this time on the high-speed line in Halle. When a Thalys on its way from Paris to Amsterdam passed through Halle, the switch from the high-speed line to the regular railway line went wrong. As a result, the power on the Thalys went out. “The problem was not with the overhead wires, but with the train itself,” says Baeken. “It was stopped for fifty minutes because of this — which was of course not fun for the travelers.”

The passengers sat in the dark for a while because of the falling darkness. And due to the problem with the Thalys, a TGV was also blocked for a while. When the power supply was restored after less than an hour, both trains could continue on towards Brussels.
