Berlin has 24 starred restaurants – but just as these excellences make up the culinary art of the capital, they shape the cuisine of people who have come to Berlin from another corner of the world.
One of my absolute favorite places: the Thaipark in Wilmersdorf. Berliners of Asian origin have been meeting here at weekends since 1995. Authentic Thai cuisine is prepared at around 50 stands, just like in Bangkok or Chiang Mai.
From the delicious northern Thai homemade lemongrass sausages (each 1.50 euros) to fried water spinach (small portion 1.50 euros) to classics such as Pad Thai or Pad Grapau – with the original holy basil for 7 euros – everything is on offer.
Much has been regulated more bureaucratically since last year – hygiene and waste, everything according to plan. By the way, it worked before. Unfortunately, there is now a ban on the sale of alcohol, which I completely incomprehensible – otherwise you could always drink nice cocktails, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.
So: pack your rosé and picnic blanket, pack your Tupperware, serviettes and cutlery (to save on waste) and discover this wonderful place with family and friends. Tip: it is emptier earlier than later.
