TGVs from Lyon to the Mediterranean Sea seriously delayed by fire along railway | Abroad

A fire that broke out at noon on Saturday south of Valence, near the high-speed line connecting Lyon to the Mediterranean, has disrupted TGV traffic, with delays of up to three hours, French railway company SNCF has reported.

“The TGVs were immediately diverted to the former line, causing delays of 45 to 60 minutes, but the three trains already on the line will be delayed by two to three hours,” a spokesman said.

The fire, which started in a car park along the A7 in the town of Allan, in the Drôme department, was extinguished after 3 hectares went up in flames, the fire service said.

SNCF expects 1 million passengers on TGV and Intercity trains this weekend, one of the busiest times of the year.
