Today, Texworld NYC starts at the Javits Center in New York City and offers the industry three days of shopping opportunities with international exhibitors and an expanded program with interesting activities for visitors: inside.
Launched in 2006, Texworld NYC this year, July 18-20, will feature an expansive exhibition space with new specialty areas and a focus on innovation and sustainability. It is aimed at buyers of clothing fabrics, specialists in research and product development, designers and merchandisers and international procurement experts.
As in previous years, the Javits Center will also host Printsource New York, recognized as a hub for the world’s finest creative talent, showcasing hundreds of collections from international surface and textile design studios. Offering buyers an expanded product offering and resources, Printsource is recognized as the largest surface design show in the United States, covering all areas including menswear, childrenswear, womenswear, bed & bath, furnishing fabrics, kitchen & tableware, stationery and stationery and wall coverings. In addition to Apparel Sourcing New York City and Home Textiles Sourcing, Global Footwear Sourcing is also returning for the summer edition.
The event has also become a focal point for professionals looking to learn about autumn trends and forecasts. The New York agency Doneger | TOBE curated Texworld Trend Showcase returns for the Summer 2023 edition and as always will be presented by Creative Director Kai Chow on Wednesday 19 July at 12:30pm. The Fall/Winter 2024/25 Doneger trend presentation will be about “Cultural Expression”, which represents Chow’s vision with the four themes of “Virtue”, “Nostalgic”, “Post-Classic” and “Mesmeric”. This is followed immediately by a guided “Explore the Floor” tour through the Texworld Trend Showcase.
An excerpt from the press release suggests an upbeat tone will underscore the trends presented by Chow: “With lessons of the past, attitudes of the present and an eye to the future, we reject convention and call for a revolution. Appreciating our traditional, ancestral, and natural wealth, we join hands to find unity in our shared dreams, admire our differences, and chart a path to a new tomorrow. When we appreciate the authentic, honor our culture, break down barriers and escape to the ethereal, we begin to mix, combine and create our perfect world.”
This year, visitors to this one-of-a-kind presentation and tour will receive a free trend book (while supplies last) that includes each curated segment.
Extended Texworld NYC Summer 23 program with new exhibitors, lectures and workshops
A new trend forecasting element is the Home Trend Showcases, curated by Nancy Fire, Creative Director of Nancy Fire Designs. She will guide visitors interested in home textiles through the colour, pattern and material trends for Autumn/Winter 24/25. Directly following her presentation, Fire will also lead a guided trend spotting tour for home textiles through the four vignettes with products from exhibitors in the area “Home Textiles Sourcing”.
Lenzing, long-standing partner of Texworld New York City, is once again a sponsor of the seminar series. This time, leading industry experts from brands like Alice + Olivia and Steve Madden are on the list of speakers to provide visitors with valuable knowledge, inspiration and practical advice to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving market.
Highlights include a panel discussion titled “The Ethos of Sustainability: The People Behind the Supply Chain” taking place on Wednesday, July 19 at 1:30 p.m., which invites attendees to reflect on life and how to deal with it with the people along the entire supply chain who are at the heart of textile and apparel production. Topics discussed include the CSR framework, working conditions and how the term “sustainability” relates to the rights of workers to live sustainably.
Also new to the event and sure to be of interest is a series of interactive dyeing workshops hosted by Sodhani Bio Tech, an Indian natural dyes manufacturer. Those who want to roll up their sleeves and dive into the process of ecological dyeing should hurry, as places are limited. Four different workshops are spread over the three days, including an indigo dye shibori workshop and a workshop on natural coloring using food waste. Trained artisans will work with participants to develop their own design for a t-shirt or bag to take home.
Texworld offers global networking and connects different creative fields
As part of the “Textile Talks” program, the “Texpertise Network Happy Hour” will take place on Wednesday afternoon, which aims to bring industry experts and representatives of textile companies together. It also offers the opportunity to better understand textile markets and to meet colleagues. The Texpertise network includes over 50 international trade fairs in Germany, France, the USA, China, India, Japan, South Africa, Dubai, Argentina, Ethiopia and Colombia. The event will be chaired by Claudia Franz, who is responsible for brand management at Messe Frankfurt.
There will also be a presentation by trend consultancy Perclers Paris, which promises to decode the major socio-cultural shifts that will define consumers’ inarticulate needs and desires over the next two to five years, moderated by Perclers North America executive director Jennifer Karuletwa . It aims to be an opportunity to make connections from movements in the fields of art, music, literature and philosophy in order to translate them into product concepts for fashion and living.
Those who can’t make it to Texworld NYC needn’t miss a thing, as Messe Frankfurt will launch its first West Coast edition of the New York trade show just a week later. Texworld Los Angeles and Apparel Sourcing Los Angeles will be held for the first time on July 25th and 26th at the California Market Center.
