About twenty kilometers off the coast of Rotterdam, the Texel fishing family Vonk made a special find yesterday: in addition to the sole that the fishermen fish for, there was also a wooden statue in the net. “At first we thought it was a mermaid,” says skipper Cor Vonk. “We don’t know what it is, but we saw that it was special.”
“We just opened it up and then this rolled out.” The 38-year-old Cor Vonk from Oudeschild – who sails on the ship TX1 with his father and brother – is used to something, but he has never made such a special find before. “I’ve been sailing for twenty years, but I’ve never seen this.”
