Tested: This is the best robotic lawnmower | Best tested

What is the best robotic lawnmower? And which one has the best value for money? The Consumers’ Association answers.

A robotic lawnmower is not cheap, but can be very useful. It mows your lawn without you having to worry about it. By means of a boundary wire around your lawn, it knows exactly which part to mow. This way it stays neatly ‘within the lines’ that you determine yourself.

Another handy feature is that robotic lawnmowers can ‘mulch’. With mulching, the grass is chopped extra finely during mowing and distributed over the lawn. This is good for the grass and means less waste.

Most robotic lawnmowers have theft protection. In addition, they often have a rain sensor, so that they do not mow in the rain.

The Consumers’ Association tests different types of lawnmowers for, among other things, mowing, ease of use, facilities and noise. In total, more than ninety lawn mowers have been tested that are currently reasonably to well available.

Among the 24 tested robot lawn mowers, a Robomow model comes out as Best in the Test. Another Central Park robotic lawnmower is the Best Buy.

Like the Robomow, this Central Park robotic lawnmower is suitable for lawns up to 1000 square meters. The cutting width is slightly smaller at 18 centimeters. The cutting height also has a slightly smaller range of a minimum of 20 millimeters to a maximum of 60 millimeters.

He mows well. As with the Robomow, wet grass or poorly maintained grass is no problem. It does, however, make a bit more noise when mowing.

It can be operated via an app. It is protected against theft with an alarm and a PIN code. Unlike the Robomow, this mower does have a rain sensor.

It has a 28 volt Li-ion battery with a capacity of 3 Ah. Charging takes a little longer, about 140 minutes. This robotic lawnmower is available from Praxis.

In this column we write weekly about household and technological appliances that have been tested by the Consumers’ Association. This is a collaboration between the independent editors of this site and the Consumers’ Association.

The Consumers’ Association tests thousands of products every year, together with qualified technicians in specialized laboratories at home and abroad. The products being tested are store bought so they are not pre-manipulated by manufacturers.

New models are tested as soon as possible after introduction. How fast that is varies per product. The Best in Test is the product with the best test rating, which is readily available. This can also be a somewhat older model, because a newer model is not always better. The Best Buy is the product with the best value for money.

The stated price of a product is the lowest retail price currently known to the Consumers’ Association. But prices can vary per day. If no recent retail price is known, the target price is quoted.
