Tested: This is the best exhaust hood | Best tested

With an extractor hood you prevent cooking fumes from spreading through your home. Extracting air can be done in different ways. It can be done via exhaust air, where the cooking air is sucked directly outside. But also via recirculation, where the cooking air is filtered.

You also have different forms of extraction, such as a wall-mounted extractor hood, a hanging extractor hood, an extractor hood in a kitchen cupboard or an integrated extraction in an induction hob.

The Consumers’ Association tests wall-mounted extractor hoods in air exhaust mode and in recirculation mode for operation, ease of use and noise, among other things. A total of 26 extractor hoods have been tested, which are currently reasonably to readily available.

Of the 22 wide wall-mounted extractor hoods tested in the air exhaust position, a Siemens model came out as Best in the Test. An extractor hood from Bosch is the Best Buy.

This extractor hood from Siemens is 90 cm wide and therefore suitable for wider hobs. He sucks well. It absorbs grease well and is also good at dissipating steam and odors.

The hood is pleasant to use. It has 3 positions, a boost function and good built-in lighting. With the boost function you can quickly extract very hard, useful if something has burned, for example.

You can switch it off with a delay, so that it continues to extract for a while after cooking. The grease filter can be put in the dishwasher and it indicates when the grease filter needs to be cleaned. It is also very quiet during operation and consumes very little energy. There are actually no downsides, except that it is not always available in stores and is often only available on order.

This hob from Bosch is very similar to the Best in the Test and does not score much lower. It is, however, slightly cheaper. It therefore currently has the best price-quality ratio.

This range hood extracts grease and odors well. It also extracts steam well, but it is slightly less good at it than the Best in the Test.

Just like the Best in the Test, it has 3 positions, a boost function and good built-in lighting. The grease filter is dishwasher safe. It is quiet and energy efficient. Even more economical than the Best in the Test.

A disadvantage is that this hood has no option to switch off with a delay. It also has no indicator that indicates when you need to clean the grease filter.
