Tesla is recalling about 54,000 of its electric cars due to software problems. Problems were found in the software responsible for the Full Self-Driving system. In some situations, it does not provide a complete stop of the car.
According to the agency Reuters citing the US National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), the fault was found in 2016-2022 Model S, 2017-2022 Model 3 and 2020-2022 Model Y.
It turned out that cars of these models do not always stop at intersections with reflective signs. The management directed Tesla to correct this shortcoming.
It is worth noting that in early January, Tesla raised the price of access to a “full-fledged” autopilot mode Full Self-Driving (FSD). This system is still in beta testing. It has been tested in the USA for more than a year and, despite the name, does not provide full autonomy: the autopilot is available only in certain situations and generally requires the driver to be ready to take control at any time.
