Tesla has to update ‘Autopilot’ software on two million vehicles

AUSTIN (dpa-AFX) – The tech billionaire Elon Musk guided Electric car-Manufacturer Tesla has to update the software for the “Autopilot” assistance system in around two million vehicles due to safety defects. The top US auto safety agency, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), found in a years-long investigation that the automaker’s driver assistance system was not sufficient to prevent misuse. “Automated technology holds great promise for improving safety, but only if used responsibly,” the agency said Wednesday. The investigation continues as the agency reviews the effectiveness of Tesla’s fix. As Tesla noted in the recall report, the software update will be installed online from December 12th or shortly thereafter.

The recall is the second this year. Tesla is increasingly being criticized after hundreds of accidents. Some of these accidents also resulted in fatalities./mne/mis/
