“I’ll have a Happy Meal on TV if @McDonalds accepts Dogecoin,” Musk tweeted. He has repeatedly touted Dogecoin, including earlier this month announcing that Tesla would accept cryptocurrency as payment for some goods.
Dogecoin’s price temporarily surged as high as $0.1511 on Wednesday as a result, according to Coinmarketcap. The day before, the coin was still trading at $ 0.143.

McDonald’s later tweeted in response to Musk’s comment, “Only if @Tesla accepts Grimacecoin,” referring to the purple character seen in some of the fast-food company’s ad campaigns. Tesla could not be reached for comment.
Originally launched as a hoax in 2013, Dogecoin is currently among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market value.
