Terzic struggles after BVB bankruptcy: “It’s completely his own fault”

On Sunday evening, Borussia Dortmund suffered its first competitive defeat in the 2024 calendar year. BVB suffered a nasty 3-2 defeat against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, even though they were still ahead 2-1 at the break.

Head coach Edin Terzic was particularly frustrated at how his men had given up what was supposed to be a safe home three points in their own stadium.

“We started the game extremely nervously and were 1-0 down early on. But after that we showed a good first half. After we had to deal with the goal we conceded, we did a lot of things very well in possession of the ball and in remaining defense. Nevertheless “We didn’t like the fact that we had to defend so many counterattacks despite having so much possession in the first half,” Terzic initially reported on his impressions from the first half on the “DAZN” microphone.

Instead of starting the second half with the right security and conviction after the goals from Donyell Malen and Nico Schlotterbeck to make it 2-1 at the break, Borussia Dortmund completely lost the thread of play and control of the game after the break.

BVB suffered their fourth defeat of the season

A circumstance that caused a lot of frustration for Coach Terzic: “We completely invite the opponent to come back into the game and concede the goal exactly as we wanted to prevent it. That was extremely frustrating today,” complained the 41-year-old with the counterattack situation before the 2-2 equalizer by Maximilian Beier. The Hoffenheim youngster made the decisive 3-2 from Hoffenheim’s perspective just three minutes later in the 64th minute of the game – also after a quick moment of change.

“It wasn’t until very late in the second half that we were able to create goalscoring chances ourselves. But it was entirely our own fault for letting the opponent get back into the game, which is extremely frustrating today,” said Dortmund- Coach Terzic after BVB’s fourth Bundesliga defeat of the current season.
