Terrorist Salah Abdeslam in tears at trial over Paris attacks: “I ask you to forgive me” | Abroad

Abdeslam’s final interrogation kicked off on Wednesday night and was concluded with questions from his defense on Friday afternoon. For three days he insisted he should detonate his explosive belt in a Paris cafe, but changed his mind when he saw the people around him.

“Do you regret not having the ‘courage’ to go to the end?”, his lawyer Olivia Ronen asked him. “I have no regrets: I did not kill these people and I am not dead,” Abdeslam replied. “I think to myself: if they only knew what they escaped.”

He also asked the three co-accused who are being tried for helping him in his flight after the attacks to apologize. “I didn’t want to drag them into this,” Abdeslam said.
