Tense atmosphere in the Walloon municipality of Oupeye after a police officer shoots a quad rider: “Angry young people came to get a story” | Interior

There is a tense atmosphere in the Walloon municipality of Oupeye, after a police officer shot dead a quad rider this afternoon. Domenico D’atria (22) would not have followed the orders of a police patrol. Angry young people came to get a story, the girlfriend of the victim calls for calm.

The young man reportedly exhibited dangerous driving behavior with his quad. The police then gave chase. When a police officer (58) signaled him to stop on the road, he was run over. A 25-year-old colleague then fired the deadly bullet.

Injured foot

The officer who was waiting for the quad driver was injured in the foot. The policeman who fired the bullets was in shock. Both were taken to hospital.

According to Sudpresse, D’atria was married and had a daughter.

Angry youth

The intersection of rue Perreau and rue Jean Hubin has been cordoned off. Not much later, angry young people from the area came to get a story. Police had to call for reinforcements to calm the situation.

“I spoke to the girlfriend of the deceased man,” mayor Serge Fillot responds. “She calls for calm and wants the investigation to take place in complete serenity. In Oupeye it is normally always calm, but this seemed like the start of a revolt.”

“fruitful conversation”

“I had a fruitful conversation with the young people,” continues Fillot. “I know some of the parents personally, I have lived here for fifty years. Nevertheless, emotions have become heated again afterwards, I do not know the exact reason.”

“We are now waiting for federal reinforcements. I have also taken steps to ban gatherings. I count on the common sense of the youth. All respect for the emotional pain they are feeling right now, but they must try to keep a cool head,” concludes Fillot.

D’atria’s family, meanwhile, claims he was shot twice in the back. This version strongly contradicts the public prosecutor’s office. According to RTL, the young man was shot in the head. The autopsy will take place on Monday.
