The previous march took place in 2018 after the tragedy in Parkland that killed 17 people. Since then, more than 175,000 people have died in the US from gun violence. Several speakers spoke out about the mismanagement of arms. “We demand to be heard! Gun violence is a problem throughout our country. It’s time we ask for justice. I ask not only to pray, but also to take action so that conditions in Buffalo never have to happen again. We will not be silent until change comes!”
Rallies are also scheduled for Saturday in more than 400 other US cities. “After countless mass shootings and gun violence in our communities, it’s time to get back on the streets and march for our lives,” the organization’s website said. In Washington alone, they expect more than 50,000 people.
President Joe Biden tweeted on Saturday prior to the march that the US Congress must swiftly pass laws that, among other things, make (semi)automatic weapons illegal, stricter controls for the purchase of a weapon and that manufacturers of the weapons can also be held accountable. “We cannot fail the American people again.”
