Tennis umpire banned for life for incorrectly entering scores

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has banned Portuguese umpire Daniel Zeferino for life for cooperating in match fixing. He doesn’t have to pay a fine.

Zeferino confessed in 2020 during a futures tournament, the lowest category in international tennis, to have deliberately entered scores incorrectly into the electronic system. Thus, gamblers could profit and make money.

The ITIA fights match fixing in tennis. This has become an increasing problem, especially at the lowest level, because there is less supervision and the earnings for the tennis players are considerably lower.
