Tennis WTA Tournament | Lisicki/Andreescu in Berlin in the semifinals

Local hero Sabine Lisicki has reached the semi-finals in the doubles competition at the lawn tennis tournament in Berlin.

With her Canadian partner Bianca Andreescu, the 32-year-old from Berlin surprised the American-Japanese duo Asia Muhammad and Ena Shibahara, who were number three, with 7: 6 (7: 4), 1: 6, 10: 7.

In the semi-finals, Lisicki/Andreescu will meet the top seeded Storm Sanders/Katerina Siniakova at the event, which is worth 790,000 euros. The Australian-Czech duo had previously beaten Nicole Melchiar-Martinez from the USA and Australia’s Ellen Perez 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 12-10.

In the individual competition, tennis Olympic champion Belinda Bencic had previously reached the quarterfinals. The 25-year-old from Switzerland won her round of 16 match against the Russian Anna Kalinskaja 6: 4, 1: 6, 6: 1. In the round of eight, Bencic now meets the winner of the Russian duel between Ludmilla Samsonova and Weronika Kudermetowa. Bencic, number eight, had defeated German Jule Niemeier in three sets in the first round.

The top seeded Ons Jabeur from Tunisia had previously qualified for the round of eight with a win against American Alycia Parks 6-2, 7-6 (10-8).
