Happy memories of 2022
Exactly one year ago, Niemeier’s star rose in Wimbledon when she sensationally made it into the quarter-finals of Wimbledon and on the way left Estonian Anett Kontaveit, who was number two at the time, behind her. In the German final against Tatjana Maria, she was inferior in three sets, but made it into the round of 16 at the US Open a few weeks later, where she fought the eventual winner Iga Swiatek before losing in three sets pulled. So far this year, however, she has only made it past the second round in Madrid and had to give up in round 1 of both Grand Slams. There, however, she also had tough opponents in Swiatek and the Russian Daria Kasatkina.

Is Niemeier fit again?
For Jule Niemeier, it is also a stress test for her wrist today. A good two weeks ago at the preparatory tournament in Berlin in the round of 16 against the Czech Marketa Vondrousova after a fall on her hand, she had to give up, after which fans and coaches feared for her participation in Wimbledon. Shortly before the tournament started, the all-clear followed: Niemeier was in full training, Wimbledon can take place. That should have been a relief for the German, who wants to build on successful times here again.
