In Vienna another stop for the Tuscan who lost 6-3 6-4. The Turin player instead beat Cerundolo in three sets and awaits the winner between Jannik and the American
The ATP 500 in Vienna immediately bid farewell to Lorenzo Musetti, eliminated in the round of 32 by Grigor Dimitrov who continues to be in splendid form. The Bulgarian, 32 years old, took home the match with a 6-3 6-4 without too much suffering, both thanks to himself and because Musetti showed himself, once again, not very lucid, not to mention confused. The 21-year-old Tuscan seems to have lost the thread of his conversation a bit, as he is unable to find continuity between one set and another in every single match, let alone within a tournament. Against Dimitrov something, apart from the usual, beautiful shots, was seen: the Tuscan was more decisive, more proactive, but it wasn’t enough. He still remains very close to the top 20, but now a turning point is needed, both in view of the Finals in Malaga (where he was called up by the technical commissioner Volandri) and for a 2024 which must not only be about maturation.
LORENZO VINCENTE
—
There is another Lorenzo, who always feels great in Vienna. Sonego loves this court and this atmosphere, remembering the glories of the victory against Novak Djokovic in that magical 2020. Tonight’s opponent certainly didn’t have the Serbian’s CV (and who does, after all), but he was everything anyway respect, that Francisco Cerundolo author of a very positive season. The Turin native was a lucky loser, and really earned respect by beating the Argentine in three sets (6-4 5-7 6-3 the score in two hours and 19 minutes), but Sonego’s dominance was much more clear than the score says: it could very well have ended in two sets, but at 5-6 in the second set a few too many distractions, after having demonstrated a certain superiority throughout the fraction, cost Sonego the partial. Things then went back to normal in the third, with an undisputed 6-2. Lorenzo will face the winner between Jannik Sinner and Ben Shelton, on the pitch at 5.30pm: needless to say, everyone is supporting the derby.
