Hurkacz 2022
So there is already a lot of work behind the right-hander. And for his fifth career title, the twelfth in the world rankings, who was in the top 10 in ninth place last year, will certainly have to go one step further. Hurkacz says that he has won all four of his previous finals on the tour. His greatest success is his Masters title in Miami in 2021. Like his opponent, Pole has not yet won a tournament this season. The semi-finals in Dubai and Miami presented the best results. His first grass appearance quickly ended in Stuttgart with a defeat in the first match.

Hurkacz in Halle
Hurkacz was in the final in Halle 2021 – but in doubles alongside Félix Auger-Aliassime. The two lost against Kevin Krawietz/Horia Tecău. Things went better recently in Stuttgart, where the Pole won the doubles competition together with Mate Pavić. In singles, the most notable grass result so far was the Wimbledon semifinals in 2021. Hurkacz competed in singles in Westphalia in 2019 and 2021 and always lost his first match. This week, the 25-year-old marched through the tournament, initially fighting against qualifier Maxime Cressy and most recently in the semifinals against wildcard player Nick Kyrgios over three sets. In the two matches in between, 5th seeded Hurkacz had to play three tie-breaks against Ugo Humbert and Félix Auger-Aliassime.

Medvedev 2022
So the time has come for the first title of the season, hasn’t it? So far, the reigning US Open winner is still chasing a tournament triumph. His two finals in 2022 were surprisingly lost at the Australian Open against Rafael Nadal and recently in ‘s-Hertogenbosch on grass against the great outsider Tim van Rijthoven. The 2020 ATP champion has accumulated 13 career titles so far – four of them at Masters level. Medvedev is playing his third final on grass. At the first 2021 in Mallorca, the right-hander had the upper hand.

Medvedev in Halle
Medvedev lived up to his role as a favorite this week. The world number one finally had to correct something at this point. On his debut last year, the Russian failed at the opening hurdle. These days, however, it was much smoother. In his matches against David Goffin, Ilya Ivashka, Roberto Bautista Agut and Oscar Otte, the top seeded 26-year-old didn’t drop a single set.
