Tennis Team Competition: Another change in Davis Cup

Madrid (AP) – The hosting mode in the Davis Cup will be changed again.

After the qualifying games at the beginning of March, the group phase that will follow this year is to take place at four different locations in mid-September, according to the World Tennis Association and the organizing agency Kosmos. Which four cities these are will be decided at a later date. The final round with quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final is then to be held from November 23rd to 27th at a location that has also yet to be determined.

Most recently, the title was awarded in the prestigious team competition in Madrid. The German team failed in the semi-finals last year against Russia. Olympic champion Alexander Zverev did not play because he rejected the mode.

It is unclear whether the German number one would now be available from September 14th to 18th when the group stage is played. The date falls right between the US Open (August 29-September 11) and the Laver Cup (September 23-25). However, Germany still has to qualify for the group stage with a win in Brazil in early March. Zverev will not play in Rio de Janeiro.
