On June 27th, the greats of the sport will once again be competing on the famous green grass at Wimbledon. The entry list for the tournament was already known. Now it has become public that a tennis star is making his comeback.
It came as a bit of a shock when the entry list for Wimbledon was published recently. Because two really big names were missing among the participants who will start at the “Championships” (this year from June 27th to July 10th): Serena and Venus Williams. For the first time in 26 years, it seemed, the famous tennis tournament would take place without one of the Williams sisters. But now there was a twist. Because: Serena Williams will take part in the tournament.
The promoter wrote on Tuesday on a photo of the tennis player on Twitter: “Our 7-time winner Serena Williams will return to Wimbledon this summer for her 21st appearance with a wild card.”
A published post by Serena Williams on Instagram had previously suggested just that. In the photo, her tennis shoes can be seen on a grass court.
