Jannik returns to the tournament he has won twice in his career, nothing for Lorenzo to do. Already out of Carreno Busta, seeded number 2
Sofia is now considered her home, thanks to the two consecutive titles with which she presented herself at the 2022 edition of the tournament on concrete. Jannik Sinner starts well: victory in two sets against Portuguese Nuno Borges, number 93 in the world, with a score of 6-3 6-4. A game managed from Alto Adige, the second Italian to reach the quarter-finals after Musetti. Nothing to do, however, for Sonego: the Turin player is defeated in three sets by Holger Rune (6-7 6-4 6-3).
The games

A victory and a defeat therefore for the blue tennis in Sofia. The first to take the field was Sonego, who after winning the first title of 2022 in Metz – in the final against Bublik – and beating Zapata Miralles in the first round, was defeated by the 2003 class in a tight match: more than the faults of Lorenzo, the great performance of the Dane, seeded number 5, who will face Ilya Ivashka in the quarter-finals, should be underlined. While enough Sinner was enough to beat Borges: Jannik – number 1 in the seeding – started immediately with the break advantage, he dropped between the end of the first set and the beginning of the second but he always kept the serve and put between himself and the opponent only one break even in the second set. No surprise, unlike what happened with Carreno Busta: the seeded number 2 has already left the tournament, defeated in three sets by the Swiss Huesler, number 95 in the world.
The words
–
Sinner commented on the hot win: “Today’s match is tough, as always at the beginning of the tournament. I served well in the important moments, I am happy. It is a special place for me, here I won my first ATP title: I hope to play well in the next round as well. The Finals? I don’t think about it so much, I always try to improve in every match and then at the end of the year we will see. Every challenge is important, I’m happy for today ”.
