On the big stage into the semi-finals: Laura Siegemund has the chance to win her second mixed doubles title at the French Open.
The German won alongside French local hero Edouard Roger-Vasselin after almost two hours 7:6 (7:5), 7:5 against number four seeds Desirae Krawczyk from the USA and Neal Skupski from Great Britain.
Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin had already defeated the duo in their final victory in Paris two years ago.
Due to heavy rain in Paris, the match was moved to the Court Philippe-Chatrier at short notice.
After an impressive performance, Alexander Zverev won 7:6 (7:3), 6:1, 6:3 against the Spanish young player Rafael Jódar and thus advanced to the semi-finals in the men’s competition.
After the duel was only equal in the first set, Zverev was already looking ahead and did not break out in euphoria. “I want to win the matches that lie ahead of me,” the 29-year-old made clear. “I’m happy that I’m in the semi-finals, nothing more.”
The German number one admitted that it was “difficult” for him to get into the match against Jódar. “Topspin didn’t make any sense today because the ball bounced off in no time. I changed my game a bit and in the end I felt comfortable.”
Tennis: Double exit for Laura Siegemund at the French Open
Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin will face Italian defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori in the semi-finals.
However, Siegemund had recently suffered a defeat in doubles.
In the quarter-finals, the 38-year-old, together with the Russian Wera Swonarewa, lost the sails against the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and the Brazilian Luisa Stefani. The match ended 4:6, 5:7.
For the third time in a row, Siegemund ended in the first round in Einzek. She lost 3:6, 6:7 (3:7) against superstar Naomi Osaka.
