the match
—
Australia-Türkiye closes the first day of Group D, where the United States demolished Paraguay with four goals, three of which in the first half. The match promises to be balanced, even if inevitably there are greater expectations for Vincenzo Montella’s Turkey. Thanks to the presence of international stars such as Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Kenan Yıldız and Arda Güler they are the group favorites together with the hosts United States and therefore in the debut match a positive result should almost be a must. For the match, however, there are no major injuries in either team: Australia’s 5-4-1 (or 3-5-2 in the attacking phase) will see former Serie A player Alessandro Circati leading the defence, with Matthew Leckie, Aiden O’Neill and Mohamed Touré in front. Turkey, on the other hand, will field one of the most talented attacking midfielders in the World Cup, with Guler-Yildiz-Yilmaz in support of Kerem Aktürkoğlu.
