Bogotá (AP) – Tatjana Maria surprisingly celebrated the second tournament victory in her long tennis career.
The 34-year-old mother of two won the title at the WTA tournament in Colombia’s capital, Bogotá. Maria prevailed in a duel between two qualifiers with 6:3, 4:6, 6:2 against Laura Pigossi from Brazil. The clay court tournament was endowed with almost 240,000 dollars.
Maria, who comes from Bad Saulgau and lives in Florida, won her first tournament in June 2018 in Mallorca. The current number 237 in the world rankings made the second triumph in her only second individual final after 2:30 hours against Pigossi, who was in 167th place. Six years ago, the former Fed Cup player was successful in doubles in Bogotá. She gave birth to her second daughter last year and returned to the tour in August.
