Arianne Hartono no longer has a chance at the Roland Garros main draw.
In the first qualifying round of the grand slam tournament, the 27-year-old tennis star from Meppel lost to the Czech Sara Bejlek: 6-7 (2) 6-4 6-4. Hartono is the global number 224, Bejlek is 44 places higher.
In the past two editions of the Australian Open, Hartono managed to reach the main tournament through the qualifications. At the beginning of this year, the American Shelby Rogers was too strong for the Dutch in the opening round in Melbourne.
The main tournament of Roland Garros starts on Sunday. The tennis players must win three matches to secure a place in the main schedule.
