Tennis star Arianne Hartono failed to reach the main draw of the US Open. The 27-year-old from Meppel lost in the third and final round of the qualifying tournament to the Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot: 7-6, 6-1.
After two victories in the first two rounds, Hartono was close to the main draw of the fourth grand slam of the year, a main draw she has never reached. But it wasn’t supposed to be that way. The 20-year-old Jacquemot, number 181 in the world ranking, was just stronger in the first set, which was decided with a tiebreak: 7-3. It happened quickly in the second set.
Reaching the third and decisive round of the qualifying tournament does provide Hartono with a nice pocket money: she goes home with $ 45,000.
