The Australian swept the local teenager 6-1 and 6-2 in the Mexican Open held in Acapulco
The Italian crushed the Slovakian Alex Molcan 6-0 and 1-0 when the latter retired
the aussie Alex De Minaurseeded eighth, won this Tuesday by 6-1, 6-2 to the mexican teenager Rodrigo Pacheco and agreed to the second round of the Mexican Tennis Open. Although he was intermittent with the first serve in the opening set, De Minaur hit the second well; he broke in the opening game and finished with four straight wins to win the set in 42 minutes. In the second, the Aussie was patient, capitalizing on the 17-year-old’s unforced errors and, though he had a break point against him in game seven, he defended well and broke in game eight to win.
After the losses of the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, first seed, and the British Cameron Norrie, fifth, De Minaur was the only seed that played on Tuesday. Ymerwho entered the main draw as a ‘lucky loser’ in Norrie’s place, defeated by 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 to French Adrian Mannarino. After losing the first set, the Swede set conditions with his serve.
The Italian Matteo Berrettinitwenty-fourth in the ATP ranking, defeated by 6-0 and 1-0 to Slovak Alex Molcan, who retired due to injury. Berrettini won one hundred percent of the points with the first serve, moved his rival and from the first game set conditions to advance to the second round in which he will face the Swedish Ymer. In the first game, Mateo made a break, confirmed with a sharp, clean serve and tipped the scales to his side from there, winning the remaining four games to win the first set by sweep in 30 minutes.
Molcan, 57 on the ATP, asked for medical help, after which the second set started well, with three points that put him on the verge of winning his first game, however, the Slovak crashed a ball into the net, losing a point in a play by Berrettini with a turn on the line and he immediately saw himself in a ‘deuce’. Disheartened, Molcan was again outmatched and opted to retire. “I felt very good, but it’s not the way you want to win games; I feel very good in Acapulco, I’m healthy and I think I can win the tournament, although it’s difficult because the level is very high,” said Berrettini.
For Matteo it was a day of emotions. A couple of hours after his victory, his brother Jacopo eliminated the German in his first match in an ATP main draw Oscar Otte, by 3-6, 7-6(3), 2-1 until he retired. The youngest of the Berrettini will play the Portuguese in the phase of the 16 best Nuno Borgeswho prevailed for 6-3, 7-6(3) to the american nick chappel.
In the other parties of this Tuesday the American Brandon Nakashima beat by 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 into german daniel altmair and his compatriot mackenzie mcdonald removed by 6-4, 6-2 to Italian Luciano Darderi‘lucky loser’ who entered the tournament for Alcaraz.
This Wednesday the second round will be played, in which the Norwegian Casper Rudd, second seed, will face the Japanese Taro Daniel, the American Tylor Fritz, third seed, the Canadian Denis Shapovalov and the Danish Holger Rune, third seed, to Nuno Borges, among other duels.
