Tennis legend Boris Becker sentenced to 2.5 years in prison | Sport

Tennis legend Boris Becker has been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for withholding 2.5 million euros from his bankruptcy trustee after his bankruptcy in 2017.

Becker was declared bankrupt by an English court on 21 June 2017 over an unpaid loan of more than £3 million on his Mallorca estate. Although it was initially thought to be a debt of six million euros in total, it later turned out to be ten times the amount. It is estimated that Becker was in the red at least sixty million euros.

In order to be able to repay that money, Becker wanted to auction a number of precious possessions. So is the cup he received when he became the youngest Wimbledon winner ever at the age of 17. Like four of the five other Grand Slam trophies, however, Becker has lost the pricey statue, in his own words. However, according to the judge, Becker withheld part of his assets from his trustee. The 54-year-old German thus risked a prison sentence of seven years.

Instead of seven years, Becker now has to go to prison for 2.5 years, a sentence that starts immediately. According to various media in England and Germany, it is expected that the German will actually spend at least half of that time behind bars in London.

Becker can still appeal the ruling.
