Tennis: Krejcikova wins seventh title

Former tennis world number two Barbora Krejcikova won the seventh title of her career at the WTA tournament in San Diego, California.

The Czech French Open champion of 2021 prevailed in the final on Saturday (local time) with 6:4, 2:6, 6:4 against the American Sofia Kenin, Australian Open champion of 2020.

For Krejcikova it is the second WTA title this year. The 27-year-old had already triumphed in Dubai in February. With her win, Krejcikova will move up to tenth in the world rankings.

Ashlyn Krueger pulled off a big surprise in Osaka, Japan. The 19-year-old American, number 123 in the world, secured her first title on the tour after defeating top-seeded Chinese Lin Zhu 6:3, 7:6 (8:6).

It was also her final debut in only her eleventh participation in a WTA tournament. In the world rankings, Krueger made one move to 73rd place – a career high.
